Halloween reprise

Lillian Wells as a witch

1947. This is Lillian Wells’ big year in Hollywood. She appears (uncredited) in six movies, then disappears off the scene never to return. The suggestive, silhouetted cat will reappear the following year in Adele Jergens’ shoot. The other props – pumpkin, straw, corn – are all staples of 1940s Hollywood Halloween imagery. A caption on the back of the photo reads:

SOMETHING NEW . . It’s needless to say that everyone would find Hallowe’en a more exciting holiday if, instead of the traditional black cat, lovely Lillian Wells were perched atop the back fence. Lillian will soon be seen in Columbia’s Technicolor musical, “Down to Earth,” starring Rita Hayworth.
