1943. In 1937 Anita Colby was on the cover of 32 magazines in one month, making $1,500 a week And during her modeling career, she is credited as having been on more magazine covers than any other girl in America. But she’s not just a pretty face.
As press agent for Cover Girl, Anita manages to arrange three magazine covers for each of her cover girls. As a result she gets a new job as Feminine Director of the David O Selznick studio, teaching contract actresses about beauty, poise, and publicity. As an image consultant for the likes of Ingrid Bergman, Katharine Hepburn and Jennifer Jones, she will feature on the cover of Time magazine.
She will go on to work for Paramount Pictures; open a PR firm; buy and sell Women’s News Service, a newspaper syndicate; write Anita Says, a syndicated newspaper column, and several books; and appear on the Today show.
Anita will turn down marriage proposals from Clark Gable and James Stewart before eventually, age 56, marrying businessman Palen Flaglet. She will die in 1992.
