7 September 1943. Orson Welles’ marriage to Rita Hayworth is a civil ceremony, at which, still in her movie makeup, she wears a beige suit with matching hat and veil, and a ruffled white blouse. She’s noticeably nervous, stumbling on her words several times as a roomful of reporters and photographers look on. A few hours after the ceremony, she returns to work at the studio.
