1941. Ann Rutherford (she’s next to Ava in the Halloween photo) remembered seeing Ava Gardner on her first day in the makeup chair:
BackWe were introduced and she was lovely, just darling. And I saw them getting her made up, and the makeup man was busily attempting, against his better judgment, to fill that dimple in her chin. Some brainless producer thought she would look better without that ‘defect’, and the makeup man was filling it in with mortician’s wax!
