1941. This photo is from the same shoot as its companion but judging by the numbering it’s 44 shots later. It’s the epitome of 1940s Empire Style, with Ava striking a regal (or should we say imperial?) pose. MGM’s favourite star for fashion shoots is Loretta Young, who makes it her business to learn about fashion and modelling. Ava has what it takes but soon gets bored with costume changes. The caption on the back of the photo reads:

The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer actress dons a white crepe evening gown with slightly flared skirt and deep sung-fitting waistband, topped by a shirred bodice that fastens cord-like to form a halter neckline. A massive rhinestone pin in floral design clips at the waist for a jewelled note.
