1963. Christine Keeler leaves the Old Bailey surrounded by police, press and paparazzi after giving evidence at the trial of Dr Stephen Ward. The 50-year-old osteopath, who introduced Ms Keeler to John Profumo, is charged with living off the immoral earnings of Ms Keeler and Mandy Rice-Davies. He will be found guilty on two charges but will not live to hear the verdict – he will take a fatal drug overdose the night before the judge finishes summing up. Questions remain about whether he was an innocent man set up by the establishment to be the scapegoat in the Profumo scandal.
