She got her first big break in 1966, when she was cast as Rachel Welles in Peyton Place. She scandalized audiences when she walked off the series after only one season and into the arms of the very popular – and very married – series star, Ryan O’Neal. In spite of that, she earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Newcomer, when she played opposite Peter Sellers, in I Love You, Alice B. Toklas! 1964. Marisa Mell is circus-girl Sophie, the gorgeous accomplice in a knife-throwing act in this still from zany comedy thriller, Masquerade. Ms Mell was an Austrian actress, best known for her role as sexy criminal mastermind Eva Kant in Danger: Diabolik (1968). Other movie credits included What’s New Pussycat? and Casanova 70. In 1976 she posed nude for the Italian version of Playboy magazine. Yet in 1963 she had been involved in a violent car crash in France. For six hours, she lay unconscious, unaware that she nearly lost her right eye. The disfigurement extended to her lip as well. She spent the next two years undergoing plastic surgery, and no damage remained in her face, except for a distinctive curl of her upper lip.⠀
